As we awaken to the realities in stores for us in a future defined by declining net energy, concerns about food security, adequate nutrition, community resilience, and reliable income commonly arise. Small-scale farming usually quickly surfaces as a pursuit that could help address all of these. Yet most dismiss the idea of becoming farmers themselves; mainly because of lack of prior experience, coupled with lack of capital. It simply feels too risky.
The refrain we most frequently hear is: I think I’d love doing it, but I don’t know how I’d make a living. Now you can enjoy growing indoors all year long! Imagine harvesting your own basil and tomatoes in the dead of winter, or taking delight in lush, exotic flowering houseplants throughout the year.
How the application works
- Logging
- Your username is your e-mail address. Each of you can easily log in using an email and have an eye on your plants.
- And more important you can do it from any device: your smartphone, your tablet, your computer.
- Your plantations
- You can choose one of your plots to be automatically controlled or to monitor it.
- In the first screen, all available plots will be listed. Clicking on it you will be able to view the plot’s monitored data and control the environment.
How the application works
- Pump control
- Even if the irrigation is done automatically, you can choose to irrigate or to spray some fertilizer by manually controlling the two pumps – the water pump and the fertilizer pump – from your device.
- Monitoring
- Each client will be able to control the environment by monitoring in real time the air temperature, the soil moisture, the intensity of light and the water from the pumps.
Any time you want you can see the action that took place in your controlled environment. You will be able to see the temperature, the soil moisture and the light intensity.
